Hydration packs are great ways to make sure you've got plenty of water for those longer rides. You don’t want to be that person on the ride that comes unprepared, so what exactly should you be sure to pack on every bike ride?

Here’s a shortlist of the seven items we think are the most important to pack for every bike ride.

Waterthis is a basic item to pack for every ride. Water bottles are great for small rides, hydration packs are good for longer ones. For those of us living or riding in the desert, we know how important it is to have water at all times. Don’t be caught without some form of hydration. These are some of the tools that you'll love having on you if you have a mechanical problem during a bike ride.

Multi-Tool – this item can be used in many different ways that you might not even think of, but a good multi-tool is always a great item to pack for every bike ride. These tools can adjust your seat height, tighten down parts on your bike that get loose, and make any adjustments while you’re out on the trails

Tire Levers – if you’re out there and get a flat tire, you’re going to need levers to change it. Well, you probably don’t NEED them, but it will make your life so much easier and cut down on the throwing and cursing that will ensue if you’re caught without.

Tube – even if you run tires with goo in them, you want to bring a spare tube that fits your bike. If you get a major flat that isn’t patched by the goo, you need to put a tube in. It might not be your first choice, but it’s better to ride out of a trail than walk.

Snacks don't take up a lot of room, but can be a lifesaver on large or small rides.Pump – it doesn’t matter if you pack a small hand pump, or get the air canisters. You need to have something to pump up a tube after you change it out. Do you see a pattern here? Flat tires are the most common issue people have when riding their bikes, so make sure you’ve got all the items necessary to change your flat and get back rolling.

Master Link – or quick-release is a small item. They are light and don’t take up much room, so there is no reason NOT to pack one. These allow for the easy connection of your chain if you break a link. Without a chain, you’ll be unable to get any power when you pedal. So, do yourself a favor and just pop one of these in your pack. When you need it, you’ll be so glad you have it.These call wedge packs are great for carrying the basics during a ride.

Snacks – okay, we know this isn’t a must for every bike ride, but we just really like making sure we’ve got something if anything happens. It might not even be you who needs a little pick-me-up. We think it’s important to be the most prepared you can. Besides, one little packet of gel or blocks won’t take up a lot of room or weigh that much. It might be the sweet relief you need when you’re in the middle of a ride.
