With spring right around the corner, you’re probably starting to get the itch of bike season. If you’re in the market for a new bike, or your heading to Fruita for a weekend escape, the Orbea Rallon could be a match made in heaven!
The Orbea Rallon is a 150mm, long-travel, 29-inch wheeled bike. This bike has adopted the boost spacing of 148mm compared to the previous standard industry measurements of 142mm). If you’re unfamiliar with boost, it first came on the scene in 2014. Major brands made the switch in late 2016. The boost 148 was in response to the industry gravitating towards 27.5 and 29-inch wheels. With the wheels becoming larger in diameter, spokes also became longer. By changing to boost 148, larger spoke angles are now able to be more balanced and stiff, keeping your wheel stronger than before.
Orbea has also moved some other components out to increase the space available around the bottom bracket. Basically, they are making things more durable, but with the ability to handle quite well through rough terrain, as you’ll see at our Tabegauche (Lunch Loops) and parts of our Kokopelli trail systems.
The standard build of this bike makes it a super stable rig to barrel down any hill and have the most fun of your life! While you might think that would take away from the handling – it doesn’t! The Rallon is nimble and can climb any of our local trails with ease. This makes it the perfect bike to rent or buy. Most of the ability to climb hills with ease is due to the seat angle. If you drop the seat, and you’ll be able to bomb down those descents.
The Rallon comes with four standard build kits – M-LTD 19, M-Team-19, M10-19, and Float X2-19. Fox shocks and forks come on all of these builds, and they know what they’re doing. Fox has been manufacturing suspension products for over three decades. They also use other well-known brands for components – Sram for cranksets, shifters, cassette, rear derailleurs, and chains; Raceface for bars and stem, Shimano for brakes, and Maxxis for tires.
If you’re not interested in anything standard, Rallon is also part of Orbea’s MyO bikes which allows you to customize every detail – frame colors, logo color, wheels, seat post, saddle. You name it; you can customize it right from the factory! We’ve got both the standard build and some custom MyO’s on the floor at the shop available for rent or purchase.
If your interested in trying this bike out, stop in and rent it. We’ve got the 24-hour rental, so no matter when you pick it up during the day, you don’t have to drop it off for 24 hours. A full 24-hours should give you enough time to slay all of your favorite local trails. If you’ve got any further questions about this or any of our other bikes, stop in or call us. We’re more than happy to help you find the perfect bike to fit your riding style.
